| South East England Regional Assembly |
| Description: |
The Regional Assembly has three areas of core business:
Advocacy
We aim to be a strong and credible voice for the region, engaging and representing our member organisations and through them the wider public, in turn contributing a coherent, 'joined up' perspective to regional agencies' plans. Furthermore we aim to influence the policies and programmes of Central Government, the European Commission and others in favour of the South East's interests and priorities.
Accountability
We perform a specific role under the Regional Development Agencies' Act 1998 as the designated regional chamber to which the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) is required to be accountable for the delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy (RES). This role has recently been strengthened in parallel with SEEDA's increased financial flexibility, and broadened to involve other regional bodies.
Regional Planning
As the Regional Planning Body we have responsibility for proposing strategic planning and transport policies to Government; we prepare, monitor and review Regional Planning Guidance (RPG) for South East England, and within that framework, the Regional Transport Strategy (RTS). |
